Sarah & Claire Recognized as Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy

We are thrilled to announce that the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Greater Toronto Chapter has recognized Sarah and Claire as Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy.

The AFP Philanthropy Awards recognize leadership in philanthropy. Sarah and Claire were nominated by the Daily Bread Food Bank. An honour to have been nominated. Truly an honour to have been selected.

The 2014 AFP Philanthropy Award recipients, including Sarah and Claire, will be honoured at the Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, November 26th.

Sarah’s 7th Annual Food Drive!

Sarah sitting on a mountain of cans at the Daily Bread Food BankWith the first week of school behind us, Sarah’s Food Drive is once again just around the corner. Here are a few key dates, and Sarah and Claire’s goal for this year’s drive.

This year’s food drive will run from September 27th to October 12th

Starting September 27th, you will once again be able to drop off food at McDowell’s valu-mart at 1500 Bayview Avenue. McDowell’s valu-mart will also be hosting a BBQ on Saturday, October 11th.

The school challenge will run from October 6th to October 10th. This year, there are 13 schools involved in this year’s Battle of Bayview (East vs West).

Sarah and Claire’s goal this year is to raise 70,000 pounds of food. They will need the help of everyone in our community to help make this happen!

Sarah nominated for 2014 MeToWe Award!

We have some exciting news to share! Sarah has been nominated for the Canadian Living Me to We Awards in the Youth in Action Category (under 12 category). She is one of only 3 nominees from across the country. We are thrilled that Sarah and her work with Sarah’s Food Drive have been recognized!

The winner will be decided by online vote. Voting is open from May 27th until June 6th. The winner will win $3,000 for their charity of choice.

This would be such a great way to kick off Sarah’s 7th Annual Food Drive…and much needed money for the Daily Bread Food Bank, especially at this time of year.

We raised 60,995 pounds! Thank you!

The final numbers are in, and we are thrilled to announce that this year, we raised a total of 60,995 pounds of food for The Daily Bread Food Bank!

We exceeded our target of 24,000 pounds by over 150%! An amazing result that couldn’t have happened without the involvement of so many people.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that have been involved in Sarah’s 6th Annual Food Drive.

Many thanks to all of the students, teachers, daycares, administrators and families who took part in the Battle of Bayview School Challenge.

Thanks to all of our neighbours and friends who dropped off food at our home or at Tremblett’s Valu-Mart or made a donation online.

Thanks to our corporate friends; Kraft Canada, Neal Brothers Foods and Nutshell Live Life Well for their extremely generous donations.

Thanks to Premier Kathleen Wynne for her support of the campaign and of the School Challenge.

Thanks to all those who bought Thanksgiving holiday hampers, all of which have been distributed to 160 GTA families in need, who had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal because of your generosity.

Many thanks to Tremblett’s Valu-Mart and their entire staff, who, along with Patrick Rocca of Bosley Real Estate, hosted an amazing BBQ celebration for all of the students involved in the food drive.

Team WEST wins the Battle of Bayview!

East vs West
Sarah set a goal for this year’s campaign of raising 24,000 pounds of food. That was a goal for the ENTIRE two week period.

We are thrilled to announce that The Battle of Bayview nearly raised that amount in the School Challenge alone!

Here are results:

TEAM EAST COMBINED TOTAL: 10,665 pounds of food (per capita 6.4 pounds of food per student)
TEAM WEST COMBINED TOTAL: 12,620 pounds of food (per capita 10.2 pounds of food per student)
TOTAL RAISED FOR BATTLE OF BAYVIEW: 23,196 POUNDS OF FOOD (per capita 8 pounds of food per student)

Congratulations to Bennington Heights, Maurice Cody and Blythwood!! Many thanks to each of you for your help, leadership and enthusiasm for Sarah’s Food Drive and the Battle of Bayview! We are so thankful to all six schools, teachers, parents and administrators for eagerly coming on board and embracing this drive with such passion.

Neal Brothers and Nutshell donate more than 12,000 pounds

For the past two years, Sarah’s Food Drive has benefited from the tremendous generosity of Peter and Chris Neal of Neal Brothers Foods. This year, they have contributed in tremendous fashion in conjunction with ‘Nutshell – Live Life Well’ stores, together donating over 12,000 pounds of food to the 6th annual food drive. That is over 1/2 of Sarah’s goal for the drive.

Thanks to Peter Neal of Neal Brothers for coordinating both the donation of food from Neal Brothers as well as the donation from Nutshell.

We sincerely appreciate the donations! They go a long way to helping hit Sarah’s goal this year.

160 Thanksgiving hampers built!

On Saturday, October 5th, Tremblett’s valu-mart hosted a BBQ and Thanksgiving hamper build in support of Sarah’s Food Drive. From noon until 5, Rob and Jessi Tremblett hosted a BBQ. Hamburgers and hot dogs were available in return for a donation to Sarah’s Food Drive.

Over 30 local kids then helped build 160 Thanksgiving hampers that were purchased by customers of Tremblett’s, as well as local businesses.

The hampers were also part of a challenge from Kraft Canada — where Kraft donated $100 for every hamper purchased (up to $10,000). Kraft Canada was on hand to hand over a cheque for $10,000!

Over $750 was raised from the BBQ, and over 20 bins of food were picked up by The Daily Bread Food Bank.

A great way to end the first week of the food drive! There is still one week to go. The drive ends on October 13th.
